We’ve had this fabric sitting in our shop for several years. A remarkable 36 oz. 100% wool plaid woven by American Woolen. The heaviest wool they’ve ever produced.
We knew we wanted to make something with it, but we weren’t going to rush the process just to get it out the door. A fabric this substantial deserved the right design.
After listening to feedback from our customers and the Reddit community, we set out to create a heavyweight shirt jacket that could serve as a true winter staple.
The result is our Waxed Lumber Jacket.
The body is constructed from 36 oz. American Woolen plaid, an exceptionally substantial wool that provides natural warmth and insulation. We reinforced the shoulders, elbows, and cuffs with 10 oz. waxed canvas, adding water resistance and abrasion resistance in the areas that see the most wear.
Custom solid brass snaps bearing our signature Heat Straps logo complete the construction.
We designed this piece to fall somewhere between a traditional wool overshirt and a heavyweight jacket. Something you can throw on without thinking twice. Substantial enough for cold winter mornings, durable enough for daily work, and comfortable enough to keep on throughout the day.
This is the jacket we envisioned hanging by your front door all winter. The one you reach for to bring in firewood, head into town, or spend the day outside.
We’ve waited years to put this wool to use, and we believe it was worth the wait.
Just hope your wife doesn’t steal it.
