How warm is The Deck Jacket?
It's made for staying warm when you're outside and not moving much for hours at a time. The 24 oz waxed canvas shell is lined with genuine mouton sheepskin through the torso and collar, the hand warmer pockets are lined with sheepskin too, the sleeves are insulated with quilted wool batting, and wool storm cuffs and a storm flap close off drafts. No corners cut and no synthetics anywhere in it.
Do I need to layer under it?
You can layer under it, but you likely won't need to.
How does it fit?
It isn't meant to fit like a suit. The sheepskin lining takes up a lot of room inside, so don't use your suit chest measurement as a guide. Check the size chart on this page; our model is 5'10" and 175 lb wearing a Medium. If you're between sizes, email support@heatstrapsusa.com.
Does it need breaking in?
Yes. It feels stiff at first and takes about a month of wear to break in. Don't be intimidated by the first few days.
How heavy is it?
About 8 lbs in a medium. The weight is deliberate. It comes from the heavy canvas and sheepskin, and it's spread evenly so the jacket stays comfortable over long wear.
Is it waterproof?
No. The 24 oz waxed canvas is built for harsh weather and sheds snow and light rain, but it isn't waterproof. If it gets soaked, let it air dry.
How is it different from The Lightweight Deck Jacket?
The Deck Jacket is our deep-winter coat: 24 oz waxed canvas, sheepskin and wool batting, about 8 lbs in a medium. The Lightweight Deck Jacket is the fall-weight version: about 14 oz waxed canvas, a wool-pile lining and a cropped cut, roughly 3 lbs.
Where is it made?
It's cut and sewn in our workshop in Passaic, New Jersey, with solid brass hardware sourced from Connecticut.
Can I return or exchange it?
Yes, within 15 days of delivery if it's unworn with the tags attached. Trying it on indoors for fit is fine. Start through our returns portal for an exchange, store credit, or a 95% refund.
